"How to get him off strike" - Indian seamer opens up on plans while bowling to MS Dhoni

Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh recently revealed that keeping MS Dhoni off the strike is his best bowling plan against the legendary wicketkeeper-batter. Dhoni is one of India and IPL's all-time greatest batters, especially at the closing stages of an innings.

Arshdeep and Dhoni have faced each other in the IPL, with the pacer never dismissing the former captain in 14 deliveries. Meanwhile, Dhoni has scored 20 runs off Arshdeep, with two boundaries and a maximum.

Speaking at the 'Champions' session of Agenda AajTak, Arshdeep opened up on bowling to Dhoni, saying:

"My plan is only to how to get him off strike. I also have plans for other batters. You can’t have a plan for him; it depends on his mood when to hit sixes and when not to."

Arshdeep has been one of India's star bowlers in T20Is with 95 wickets at an average of 18.10 and an economy of 8.32 in 60 outings. The 25-year-old is already India's second-leading wicket-taker in T20Is, only behind Yuzvendra Chahal.

Arshdeep helped India break their 11-year ICC trophy drought in the 2024 T20 World Cup, finishing as the joint-leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets. His overall T20 record is praiseworthy, — 203 wickets at an average of 22.31 in 153 games.

Former India batter Suresh Raina believes Arshdeep Singh should have been in the squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

While Arshdeep has played 68 white-ball games for India, he has yet to feature in a red-ball game.

Speaking about Arshdeep in the same session, Raina said:

"He should have gone to Australia. But there are big series coming up. India are going to England. He will be useful in getting those breakthroughs with the new ball and the old ball. He has it in him."

Arshdeep has been impressive in first-class cricket without setting the world on fire with 66 wickets in 21 outings at an average of 30.37.

Meanwhile, India and Australia are involved in a tightly fought battle at 1-1 after two Tests. The hosts are currently 97/3 after 40 overs in the first innings of the third Test at Brisbane.
