How many overs need to be bowled for a result in today’s IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal?

Team India and England were all set for a showdown in the 2024 semi-final in Guyana on June 27. The highly anticipated contest was a rematch from the semi-final two years back in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup in Adelaide, with England winning by 10 wickets.

However, as predicted, the weather gods intervened an hour before the start of play to delay the toss. It must be remembered that the second semi-final has no reserve day and has only an additional 250 hours from the stipulated end time to achieve a result.

Both teams need to bat at least 10 overs of their innings for a result, barring which the game will be considered abandoned. In case of an abandonment, Team India will advance directly to the final by virtue of finishing higher in their Super Eight group.

While India won all three games and finished atop Group 1, England had two wins in three matches to finish in second place in Group 2.

India and England have split their four previous T20 World Cup meetings, with the Asian giants winning in 2007 and 2012 and the defending champions emerging victorious in 2009 and 2022. Meanwhile, the first semi-final saw South Africa demolish Afghanistan in Trinidad to earn the right to face the winner of the India-England clash in the grand finale.

A no result in the second semi-final will mean an India-South Africa final in Barbados on June 29.

India and England had contrasting paths to the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final

India and England took vastly different paths to reach the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final.

While the Men in Blue have been dominant from the word go, England stuttered in the group and Super Eight stages to reach the final four. Rohit Sharma's men won all three completed games in the group stage. They continued their sensational run by winning the next three outings in the Super Eights to remain unbeaten until the semi-final.

As for England, they had a washout against Scotland and a loss to Australia to jeopardize their Super Eight qualification. However, crushing wins over Oman and Namibia propelled them to the next round.

Yet, it wasn't smooth sailing even in the Super Eights with a defeat to South Africa leaving them on the brink of elimination. But a complete decimation of co-hosts USA saw them advance to the semi-final as the second-ranked team in Group Two.
