How much money has GT retained Shubman Gill for ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction?
Team India opener Shubman Gill has been retained by the Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2025 for ₹16.5 crore, making him the second retention for the Gujarat-based franchise.
Shubman Gill started his IPL journey as an 18-year-old playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2021. In the four years, he scored 1417 runs across 58 matches for the franchise, starring in the 2021 final against the Chennai Super Kings which KKR lost by 27 runs.
Ahead of IPL 2022, Gill made the switch from KKR to the newly-formed Gujarat Titans, becoming one of the three retentions alongside Hardik Pandya and Afghanistan spin-bowling all-rounder Rashid Khan. The Punjab lad was acquired for ₹8 crore.
Gill won the IPL trophy in 2022 and finished runners-up in 2023. Following Hardik Pandya's controversial departure to the Mumbai Indians, Gill was appointed skipper. But GT failed to make the playoffs for the first time since their inception. Gill had a rough start to his captaincy career at GT, with the Titans finishing eighth in the points table.
Rashid Khan and Sai Sudharsan among other names retained by GT for IPL 2025
Afghan sensation Rashid Khan and Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan are the other two capped players retained by GT for the next cycle that spans till 2027. While Rashid Khan takes up one of the two available overseas slots and will be earning ₹18 crore, Sai Sudharsan will pocket ₹8.5 crore.
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan complete the retention list, with the uncapped players being retained for ₹4 crore each. GT will head into the IPL 2025 mega auction with a purse of ₹69 crore and one RTM to their name.
