Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 mini-auction. The veteran Indian star was picked by the franchise for ₹1.8 crore ahead of the inaugural edition in 2023 and she will continue to receive the same salary for the forthcoming edition as well.
On Thursday, November 7, Mumbai announced that they have retained 14 players from their existing squad while releasing four members. The team parted ways with Indian cricketers Priyanka Bala, Humaira Kazi, Fatima Jaffer, and English all-rounder Isabelle Wong.
MI will have to rope in four players, including one overseas name, at the WPL 2025 mini-auction. They will enter the event with a remaining purse of ₹2.65 crore.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet was the leading run-getter for MI in WPL 2024. The veteran batter amassed 268 runs across seven outings at a strike rate of 141.05. The side's campaign ended with a heartbreaking five-run loss to eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Eliminator.
Harmanpreet Kaur led MI to WPL triumph in 2023
Under Harmanpreet Kaur's captaincy, MI emerged as the champions of the inaugural edition of WPL in 2023. They finished second in the points table in the league stage, claiming six wins from their eight fixtures.
They clinched a comprehensive 72-run victory over UP Warriorz in the Eliminator to advance into the final. The side secured a seven-wicket win against Delhi Capitals in the summit clash to lift the coveted trophy.
Harmanpreet scored 281 runs from nine innings at an average of 40.14 and a strike rate of 135.09. She played a crucial 37-run knock in the WPL 2023 final.
