"I’ll be available to bowl"- Mitchell Marsh with massive news for Australia ahead of T20 World Cup Super 8 clash against Bangladesh
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has confirmed that he will bowl if needed ahead of their T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter against Bangladesh in North Sound, Antigua, on Friday, June 21. Marsh had been nursing a hamstring injury that he had sustained during his time with the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
Marsh stressed the importance of having as many bowling options as possible in the shortest format, especially in the conditions they had been playing in. However, he is hopeful that he will not be needed to bowl as the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis could roll their arms over.
Speaking to the reporters ahead of the game, Mitchell Marsh said about his bowling:
"I’ll be available to bowl. With the line-up that we’ve got I don’t really necessarily see the need for me to bowl, but I think it’s really important in this format to have options and we’re blessed with plenty of those."
Marcus Stoinis' brilliant form with the ball is a major reason why Australia haven't quite missed the seam-bowling all-rounder role that Marsh offers. In four matches so far, Stoinis has picked six wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 5.77.
It’s always nice to have a bit of a break from bowling: Mitchell Marsh
While Mitchell Marsh hasn't bowled in a while, his body has got enough rest due to the reduction in workload and is feeling physically fresh and ready to contribute as an all-rounder.
He spoke about his conversation with Stoinis and how they always want to be in the game across departments.
"I actually physically feel good. It’s always nice to have a bit of a break from bowling. Stoin and I often talk about it as allrounders, we love being in the game. As I've said before it’s really important in this format, with some of the teams we're coming up against to have as many options as we possibly," Marsh told reporters.
The Aussies have maintained a 100 percent win record so far and have enough idea about the Caribbean conditions. They would back themselves to counter the spin threat of Bangladesh and bag the two points on offer.
