"I was looking to hit off-stump" - Saurabh Netravalkar on 'emotional moment' of getting Virat Kohli's wicket during T20 World Cup 2024
USA's left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar had a couple of outings to remember in the ongoing T20 World Cup, turning him into an overnight sensation. After his heroics in the Super Over against Pakistan, Netravalkar also shone against India, picking up the big wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The USA pacer bowled a good-length delivery that went on with the angle and took Kohli's outside edge as the ace batter looked to play away from his body and the wicketkeeper completed a simple catch.
Saurabh Netravalkar told the Times of India about Virat Kohli's wicket:
"These last two games were really high-profile. It was an emotional moment to get Virat's wicket. I was looking to hit off-stump and it worked out well."
Netravalkar also stated that Kohli congratulated him for his performances in the T20 World Cup. The USA pacer was also seen having a light chat with Suryakumar Yadav as Netravalkar had played age-group cricket for Mumbai alongside the No.1 ranked T20I batter.
Saurabh Netravalkar on juggling cricket and coding
Saurabh Netravalkar had represented India at the U19 level and also played domestic cricket for Mumbai. However, he had to take a call on his career when he felt that he wouldn't be getting as many opportunities in India. Netravalkar expressed his love for coding.
"It is difficult to explain that journey in a couple of sentences. It's been really very long. Back then, I had to take a practical call when I saw that my career as a cricketer in India wasn't really taking off because of the talent around. I got a chance to study in a reputed university here and it was a decision to pursue my other love, coding," he said in the same interview.
Netravalkar graduated from Cornell University and is a Principal Member of the technical staff at Oracle.
