"I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely"- Rohit Sharma pens emotional tribute to departing Indian coach Rahul Dravid
Indian captain Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to express his emotions about working with departing head coach Rahul Dravid. Rohit and Dravid together masterminded India's 2024 T20 World Cup win and brought an end to the 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.
Rohit posted several photos of himself with Dravid and also with his family. The Indian skipper shed light on how lucky he felt to work with someone who he had idolized as a youngster.
Here's what an extract of Rohit Sharma's Instagram caption read:
"Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you."
Rohit hailed Rahul Dravid for being so humble despite the incredible milestones he had achieved as a cricketer and as a coach.
Rohit Sharma on 'work wife' Rahul Dravid
The bonding between Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid was so good that Rohit's wife Ritika referred to the former cricket as his 'work wife'. The Indian captain is delighted that the Men in Blue could give Dravid a send-off with the T20 World Cup-winning trophy.
Here's what he further wrote:
"My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too 😊 This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend 🫡"
BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed reporters that Rahul Dravid didn't want to renew his contract as India's head coach because of family commitments.
