“I'm really looking forward to that” – Yashasvi Jaiswal keen to play in-form Bangladesh in Test series

India’s swashbuckling opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has expressed his excitement at playing against in-form Bangladesh in the upcoming two-match Test series. Team India will begin their 10-match Test season with their first game against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 onwards.

Jaiswal added that he is striving to keep striving as he grows in the international setup. He also revealed his success from domestic cricket to the top.

Notably, Jaiswal is India’s leading run-getter in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The left-handed batter began his career with a century on his Test debut in the West Indies. He has amassed 1028 runs in nine Tests at an average of 68.53, hitting two double centuries so far.

Overall, he is only behind in-form Joe Root, who has amassed 1373 runs in 16 Tests.

Jaiswal will be keen to continue his form against Bangladesh. Speaking to Jio Cinema at Duleep Trophy, Yashasvi Jaiswal said (via ANI):

"I think they've been playing well. It'll be fun to match up with them, it's fun to play test matches regardless. I'm really looking forward to that."
"I don't overthink, I just need to prepare well and keep improving myself as a player. The more I repeat these steps, the better I'll get. I have worked hard to keep up my form and continue to do so to ensure I maintain it. The more consistent I stay with my practice and preparation; my results will improve," he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing for India B in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. The left-handed batter scored 30 runs off 59 balls with the help of six boundaries against India A. The 22-year-old will now look to make amends in the second innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal living rent-free in Aussies' minds ahead of 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been seen as a major threat by Australia ahead of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. Here’s how Australian ace spinner Nathan Lyon and former Aussie twice ODI World Cup-winning coach John Buchanan recently reacted to his form:

Buchanan said (via Hindustan Times):

"There is a lot of talk about that, is not there? He is an exciting young player, and certainly one to watch, but he would be to me one of those examples. He (Jaiswal) has not played in Australia, or at least he has not played in Perth in a Test match on a wicket that bounces."
"So, his ability to adjust his game to those conditions in some sense might be a barometer as to how India will go through the series," he added.

Nathan Lyon spoke of Jaiswal (via The Times of India):

"I haven't come across him [Jaiswal] yet, but that will be a massive challenge for all us bowlers. The way he played against England, I watched that quite closely and thought that was quite amazing."

Earlier this year, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 712 runs in the five-match Test series against England, comprising two double hundreds and three 50s.
