"I couldn't stop smiling for the next one or two hours" - Emotional Sanju Samson opens up on India's T20 World Cup win

India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson recalled his emotions after the Men in Blue clinched their second T20 World Cup crown in Barbados on June 29. India defeated the Proteas by seven runs in the final and while he wasn't a part of the XI, Samson was a part of the squad that ended the Men in Blue's 11-year wait for an ICC Trophy.

Samson recounted how the smile didn't go away from his face even hours after the win as the feeling was still sinking in. He also expressed how fortunate he felt to be a part of the incredible team.

Speaking to the host broadcaster ahead of the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe, here's what Sanju Samson said:

"Unbelievable experience right after the last ball of the 20th over where we won the final in Barbados and I could remember myself, like I couldn't stop smiling for the next one or two hours actually, so the emotion was so high. So I think I believe that I was very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful team."

Samson also congratulated the BCCI and each and every member of the coaching staff, and his teammates for their contribution in the incredible triumph.


Sanju Samson feels T20 World Cup win was a 'complete team effort'

Sanju Samson also shed light on how several of the 12 players that India used throughout the T20 World Cup contributed in different situations and got the team on the winning trail. On this, he stated:

"So, especially looking at how we played this World Cup. I think it was a complete team effort. I think it was the whole like 11 to 12 guys who all played. They all made some crucial contributions. So it was a great team effort by everyone."

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer for India and the second-highest in the tournament with 257 runs to his name at a strike rate of 157.6. Arshdeep Singh was joint-top in the wicket-taking charts with 17 scalps to his name. Jasprit Bumrah meanwhile won the Player of the Tournament award for his 15 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of just 4.17.
