"I think it's very funny"- Pat Cummins explains meaning behind Travis Head's celebration after Rishabh Pant's wicket in BGT 2024-25 4th Test
Australia captain Pat Cummins explained teammate Travis Head's celebration in the Melbourne Test against India. Head made a unique gesture after he broke the partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant by dismissing the latter caught out.
Pant and Jaiswal frustrated the Australian bowlers by stitching up a partnership that lasted almost 33 overs. It seemed like the Indian duo would help their team pull off a draw in Melbourne, but Head broke the partnership by sending Pant back to the dressing room in the third session of Day 5.
When asked about the meaning behind Head's unique celebration after taking the wicket, Pat Cummins said at the post-match press conference:
"I didn't see his celebration. What was it? It was above board. Oh sorry. Yes okay. I can explain that. It's his finger is so hot, he's got to put it in a cup of ice. Yeah, that's what it is. That's normally the running joke.
"Was it the Gabba or somewhere, he got a wicket as well and just goes straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, puts his finger in and just walks in front of Lyon. Just like that. I think it's very funny. So that's what it would have been. Nothing else (laughs)."
Head bowled only five overs in the second innings, but he picked up the crucial wicket of Rishabh Pant. The part-time spinner ended with figures of 1/14 in his five-over spell.
