"I think you stick with Nathan Ellis" - Aaron Finch on Australia's selection conundrum with Pat Cummins for T20 World Cup 2024

Former Australian captain Aaron Finch believes the Aussies need to continue to show faith in Nathan Ellis for their high-octane encounter against arch-rivals England in the T20 World Cup on Saturday, June 8. Australia's 2023 ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins was on the bench in their win against Oman.

There has been a lot of talk about whether in such a massive game against England, it is only fair for Australia to bring back Cummins. While Finch accepted that whatever call the management would take wouldn't be considered a mistake, he opined that he would stick to Ellis.

Here's what Aaron Finch told ESPNCricinfo:

"I think you stick with Ellis. I think his variations, his variety, his specialized skill set in the middle and the back overs provide Australia just with another option. Yes, Pat is an unbelievable bowler in all three formats of the game in all three phases of the game, whichever way they go is the right call."

Nathan Ellis was impressive in Australia's win over Oman as he picked up figures of 2/28 in his four overs and helped his team secure a victory margin of 39 runs.

Australia might need Nathan Ellis against England's depth: Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch also shed light on England's batting depth and the array of explosive hitters that they have down till the bowlers. He reckons Nathan Ellis' subtle variations and change of pace could be vital in stopping Jos Buttler and co. in their tracks.

On this, he stated:

"Ellis showed in the first game that he is a real specialist in that area of the game. Australia might need that with England's depth of their batting line-up and the power that they've got."

While Australia are coming on the back of a win against Oman, England had to share points with Scotland in a rain-affected game.
