“I think they will bid for me again” - Deepak Chahar on CSK ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction
India pacer Deepak Chahar is optimistic that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to acquire him in the IPL 2025 mega auction, despite not retaining him for the upcoming season. Chahar, who has been a part of CSK since 2018, played eight matches last season, picking up five wickets before a groin injury cut his campaign short.
Chahar also pointed out that the franchise didn't retain him before the last mega auction but ultimately bought him for a substantial ₹14 crore ahead of the 2022 season. In a conversation with The Times of India, the 32-year-old said:
“I was not retained by them in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don't know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay and that's why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game.”
The pacer expressed his eagerness to wear the yellow jersey again and added that if not CSK, he hopes Rajasthan Royals (RR) will bid for him.
“I think they will bid for me again. I would like to don the yellow jersey again and if not that, then I would want Rajasthan Royals to bid for me," Deepak Chahar added.
The five-time champions retained five players: Ruturaj Gaikwad (₹18 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (₹18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (₹13 crore), Shivam Dube (₹12 crore), and MS Dhoni (₹4 crore).
Deepak Chahar has played 81 IPL matches
Deepak Chahar made his IPL debut in 2016 for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants, playing five matches over two seasons and taking just one wicket. He joined Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and has been a key part of the franchise ever since.
In total, the pacer has featured in 81 IPL matches, claiming 77 wickets, and has been part of three title-winning squads with CSK in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
