ICC Rankings: Smriti Mandhana reaches career-best ranking among T20I batters after latest Women's Asia Cup campaign
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana made significant progress in the latest ICC Rankings among T20I batters. Despite the Women in Blue ending up as runners-up to eventual winners Sri Lanka, Mandhana was rewarded for her consistency with the bat.
In four innings, the southpaw scored 173 runs at a sensational average of 57.66 with a strike rate of 137.30 and two half-centuries to her name. These performances pushed her up to fourth spot among T20I batters in the latest ICC Rankings with 743 rating points, the most she has mustered in her career.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu dished out a Player of the Tournament performance in the Women's Asia Cup as she led the Sri Lankan team to a famous triumph over India. She led by example with a staggering 304 runs in five innings at a mind-boggling average of 101.33 and a strike rate of 146.85.
Athapaththu scored a hundred and two half-centuries, including a crucial 61 in the final to help her team clinch the title. She has risen three spots into sixth place among T20I batters and like Mandhana, has amassed a career-high 705 rating points.
Harshita Samarawickrama, the top-scorer in the Women's Asia Cup final with a match-winning 69*, also had a sensational tournament with 140 runs at an average of 46.66. She has moved three spots higher into 20th position in the ICC Rankings among T20I batters.
Indians making the move in ICC Rankings among T20I bowlers
Deepti Sharma was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 10 wickets from five games and held her third position in the rankings. Renuka Thakur picked up seven wickets in five matches and moved to the fifth position with 722 rating points.
Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav moved seven places higher into 13th spot in the latest rankings among T20I bowlers. Deepti continues to be ranked third among T20I all-rounders.
