ICC World Test Championship points table (updated) as on December 1 after NZ vs ENG 2024 1st Test
No changes happened in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table after the first Test of the series between New Zealand and England. Despite winning the Test by eight wickets, England continue to be in the sixth position in the standings.
New Zealand also continue to hold the fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table. The Blackcaps' points percentage has come down from 54.55% to 50%. They have six wins and six defeats in 12 matches of the 2023-25 WTC cycle so far.
On the other side, England's points percentage has increased from 40.79% to 43.75%. The Ben Stokes-led outfit have registered 10 victories, nine defeats and one draw in 20 matches. Had England not received a 19-point penalty for slow over rate, they could have been in the top 5 of the ICC World Test Championship points table.
With this defeat, New Zealand's chances of qualifying for the 2025 WTC Final have reduced significantly. If the Blackcaps win the remaining two Tests of the ongoing series against England, their fate will not be in their hands.
Bangladesh have a final chance to avoid finishing last in ICC World Test Championship points table
Bangladesh and West Indies are currently competing in the final Test of their WTC series in Kingston. It is the final Test match for Bangladesh in this 2023-25 WTC cycle, and if they win this game, they can avoid finishing last in the standings.
The Bangladesh team currently sits ninth in the World Test Championship points table with 25% points. A victory in the ongoing match against West Indies can take them up to the eighth spot, with their final points percentage being 31.25%.
Meanwhile, if the Test ends in a draw or West Indies emerge victorious, Bangladesh will remain last in the standings. The second day of the Test will begin soon in Kingston.
