ICC World Test Championship points table (updated) as on December 4 after WI vs BAN 2024 Test series
West Indies (WI) have dropped down to the ninth spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table after losing the second Test against Bangladesh (BAN). The two-match series between West Indies and Bangladesh ended in a 1-1 draw yesterday (December 3) after the Tigers won the second Test by 101 runs in Kingston.
Thanks to this win, Bangladesh's points percentage increased from 25% to 31.25%. The Tigers have ended the WTC cycle of 2023-25 with four wins and eight defeats in 12 matches. They are likely to finish eighth in the final standings.
On the other side, West Indies had a golden chance to avoid taking the wooden spoon home by defeating Bangladesh in a home Test.
Even a draw would have helped West Indies retain the eighth position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. However, they lost the game, which is why their points percentage reduced from 26.67% to 24.24%.
The Caribbean team has managed only two victories in 11 matches of the 2023-25 WTC cycle. They still have one series left, which will begin on January 16 against Pakistan away from home. It will be a two-match series. West Indies must win that series by 1-0 or 2-0 to avoid a bottom-place finish in the ICC World Test Championship.
South Africa jump to the top of ICC World Test Championship points table soon
The second Test of the South Africa vs Sri Lanka series will begin tomorrow (December 5) at the St. George's Park. The Proteas already have an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series, and if they win the second Test, they can jump from second to first position in the ICC World Test Championship points table.
A win can take South Africa's points percentage up from 59.26% to 63.33%. Two other Tests of the WTC cycle will also begin this weeked. India will take on Australia in a pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, while New Zealand will host England for a Test in Wellington.
