Australia hammered India by 10 wickets in the second Test of BGT 2024-25 in Adelaide on Sunday, December 8, as part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). Courtesy of the win, achieved in three days, the Aussies squared the five-match series 1-1. India had emerged victorious in the opening Test in Perth by 295 runs.
Australia were completely dominant in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Their bowlers bundled out India for 180 & 175. Travis Head's ton lifted them to 337 in their first innings and they needed only 19 runs in the second innings to square the series.
Following the loss in Adelaide, India have dropped down to third position in the World Test Championship points table. Their points percentage (PCT) has fallen to 57.29, with nine wins, six losses, and a draw from 16 matches.
On the other hand, Australia have moved to the top of the 2023-25 WTC points table following their thumping win over Rohit Sharma and co. in Adelaide. With nine wins, four losses, and a draw from 14 games, the Aussies have a PCT of 60.71. South Africa are in second place, with five wins, three losses, and one draw from nine matches and a points percentage of 59.26.
The Proteas are taking on Sri Lanka in the second Test of the two-match series at St George's Park in Gqeberha. The hosts beat the Lankans by 233 runs in the first Test in Durban to boost their chances of making it to the World Test Championship final.
India and Australia will clash in Brisbane in their next World Test Championship match
The third India vs Australia Test in the 2024-25 BGT will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to December 18. A loss in this Test could severely dent India's chances of qualifying for the WTC final.
While India have three matches left to play in the ongoing World Test Championship, Australia will play two Tests in Sri Lanka at the start of 2025 after the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Also, South Africa will host Pakistan for two Tests after their ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
