ICC World Test Championship points table (updated) as of November 3 after IND vs NZ 2024 3rd Test

Team India's shot at featuring in the third successive World Test Championship (WTC) final has taken a massive hit after losing the series finale to New Zealand by 25 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, November 3. The loss means that the Men in Blue have suffered a first-ever 3-0 whitewash at home, taking them to the second place in the points table with a five-match series in Australia remaining.

India were handed a 147-run target on Day 3 of the contest but lost their way early in the run chase by being reduced to 29-5 in a flash. Rishabh Pant offered some hope with a brilliant counter-attacking display (64 off 57), but his dismissal after lunch was the turning point.

The lower order could not polish off the remaining runs, and just as they did in Bengaluru and Pune, New Zealand emerged winners to ascend in the WTC standings.

After claiming an unassailable lead in the series in Pune, New Zealand were placed fourth in the standings, with a win percentage of 50. With the 3-0 result now being official, their numbers have improved considerably. The Kiwis are still placed fourth, but with an improved winning percentage of 54.55, within touching distance of third-placed Sri Lanka (55.56), who have a challenging tour of South Africa on the horizon.

As far as India are concerned, they have lost their top spot to Australia in the World Test Championship table for the time being. Before the third Test, the Men in Blue were atop the standings with a win percentage of 62.82, that figure has dropped down to 58.33 percent.

India to tour Australia while New Zealand host England to close out their respective World Test Championship cycles

The Men in Blue will have to pull off a comprehensive series victory in Australia while relying on other results to finish in the top two in the World Test Championship table. They are scheduled to tour Down Under for five Tests, beginning November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have completely turned around their fortunes after a whitewash against Sri Lanka. Tom Latham and company have a shot of featuring in the finals for the second time, depending on how they fare against England in the upcoming three-match Test series, beginning November 28.
