ICC World Test Championship points table (Updated) as of September 22 after IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, September 22, continuing their impressive run in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). The hosts resumed Day 4 needing six wickets for victory and wrapped up the game in the first session as Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 in 62.1 overs, chasing a target of 515.

The visitors resumed their second innings on Sunday at Chepauk at 158-4. Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets each as Bangladesh succumbed to defeat. Ashwin finished with 6-88 and was named Player of the Match on his home ground, having also scored a ton in the first innings. For Bangladesh, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 82.

India continued to hold the first position in the World Test Championship points table after the triumph over Bangladesh in Chennai. They have 86 points from 10 matches, with a points percentage of 71.67. The Rohit Sharma-led side have won seven matches and lost two, while one game ended in a draw.


Bangladesh slide down to 6th position in the World Test Championship points table

Bangladesh, who came to India on the back of a historic 2-0 Test series win in Pakistan, have moved down to sixth place in the updated World Test Championship points table following their defeat to India. The Asian side have 33 points from seven matches and a points percentage of 39.29. Bangladesh have won three and lost four of their seven Test matches.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Australia retain the second place in the 2023-25 World Test Championship points table. They have 90 points from 12 matches, with a points percentage of 62.50. The Aussies have won eight Tests and lost three, while one match ended in a draw.

New Zealand and Sri Lanka occupy the third and fourth positions respectively in the WTC points. The Kiwis have 36 points from six Tests and 50 points percentage. As for the Lankans, they also have 36 points from seven games, but with a lower points percentage of 42.86. The two sides are currently battling it out in the first Test in Galle.

Looking at the other teams, England are fifth in the points table, with a points percentage of 42.19. South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies occupy the last three spots in the 2023-25 WTC points table.
