"If he doesn't eat 1kg mutton daily, his bowing speed will reduce" - Mohammed Shami's close friend jokes on the Indian pacer's diet

Mohammed Shami's close friend Umesh Kumar recently spoke about how the Indian fast bowler cannot survive without mutton. He even joked that there might be a drop in the pacer's bowling speed if he didn't eat one kilogram of mutton daily.

Umesh made these comments while speaking on journalist Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel. He said (from 34':54'):

"If he (Shami) doesn't eat 1kg mutton daily, his bowing speed will reduce by upto 15 kmph."

On the podcast, Umesh mentioned that Shami can manage without mutton for a maximum of one day but after that, he won't be able to take it, adding (from 33':23'):

"Shami can bear everything, but Shami cannot survive without mutton. He can tolerate it for one day, you will see him agitated on the second day, and will lose his mind on the third."

Mohammed Shami was last seen in action during the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he stole the show with his bowling exploits. The 33-year-old was the leading wicket-taker of the edition, bagging 24 wickets in just seven matches. He has been on the sidelines since last year's showpiece event due to injury.

Speaking about Shami's love for shopping on the aforementioned source, Umesh said (from 36':43'):

"Shami is very fond of shopping. There is a mall in Delhi called Emporio. Earlier whenever Shami returned home, he would take me for shopping."

Shami underwent an Achilles Tendon surgery earlier this year. He has resumed bowling after a lengthy hiatus and has shared videos of his practice sessions on his social media handles.

The 33-year-old had to miss several important matches due to his injury. He was ruled out of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the subsequent 2024 T20 World Cup.
