If you have the guts to say these things from a verified page, I will reply" - Mohammed Shami's sharp reaction to Sania Mirza wedding rumors
Senior Team India pacer Mohammed Shami has broken his silence on rumors that he might get married to tennis star Sania Mirza. Rubbishing all such claims, he urged people to be sensitive while speaking about someone's personal lives. He also challenged those spreading the fake news to make such posts from verified accounts if they have the guts
Over the last couple of weeks, the internet has been abuzz with rumors claiming that Shami and Mirza are contemplating marriage. Till now neither sport star has reacted to the news.
In an interview on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube show, Shami finally addressed the rumor. Dismissing all claims, he said (as quoted by Economic Times):
"I urge everyone to be responsible with social media and refrain from spreading such unfounded news. It is weird and done purposely for some lame fun. But what can be done? If I open my phone, I can see those memes.
"But I would only like to say that memes are made for fun, but if they are related to someone's life, then you must think about it before sharing. These people share from unverified pages and get away by saying anything."
Taking the rumor spreaders head on, the 33-year-old also asked whether they have the guts to make such posts from verified accounts, adding that he would give a reply if it happens.
"But I would like to say one thing - if you have the guts to say all these things from a verified page, then I will reply. Try achieving success, help people, and upgrade yourself, then I will believe that you are a good person," Shami commented.
The right-arm pacer married Hasin Jahan in 2014, but the couple split in 2018, with the latter accusing the cricketer of adultery and domestic violence. As for Mirza, she married Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010, but their relationship ended in divorce earlier this year.
"I talk to her in between" - Mohammed Shami gets emotional while speaking about daughter
Shami has a daughter named Aaira, who was born in 2015. Aaira lives with the cricketer's estranged wife Hasin Jahan. Asked if he misses his daughter, the bowler replied that he talks to her in between but added that the situation is not in his hands.
"I talk to her in between. You have to deal with situations. How much ever you try to go back, if sometimes it creates some (issues), then you have to distance yourself a bit. You need to have patience and wait for your time. I believe in that. When your time comes …,” he said.
Shami has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon in February this year.
