[In Picture] 2 missed calls from dad, calls from Indian legends in R Ashwin’s phone log upon retirement after BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced retirement from international cricket after the end of the third Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test, shared a special post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He shared a screengrab of his phone log, highlighting a call from two legendary former Indian cricketers.
The picture put up by him on X showed that he received calls from the batting great Sachin Tendulkar and one of India's finest all-rounders and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. While the call from Tendulkar was a Facetime audio, Kapil Dev made a WhatsApp audio call.
On the day of his retirement, Ashwin expressed his gratitude upon receiving calls from the two iconic cricketers, via his post on X.
"If some one told me 25 years ago that I would have a smart phone with me and the call log on the last day of my career as an Indian cricketer would look like this☺️☺️, I would have had a heart attack then only. Thanks @sachin_rt and @therealkapildev paaji🙏🙏 #blessed," he captioned the tweet.
The tweet made by Ashwin, where he put up a picture of his call log, can be seen below -
Ashwin has also played international cricket with Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian cricket team and was also a part of the side, along with Sachin, that won the 2011 ODI World Cup.
R Ashwin retired with two Tests of the BGT 2024-25 series remaining
Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement mid-way through the series after the end of the third Test at The Gabba. India are set to play the final two Tests of the series in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
As he announced his decision with two Tests in the series remaining, it is being argued that Ashwin could have played the last two games before taking the big call.
While it cannot be guaranteed that he would have started in the playing XI, Ashwin has had a successful record in Tests in Melbourne. With the conditions historically favoring spin in Sydney, he would have been an effective option there as well.
