“He’s a team’s man” - Cheteshwar Pujara sees Jasprit Bumrah as India's future Test captain following BGT 2024-25 first Test

India Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara has backed Jasprit Bumrah as a long-term captain, suggesting he could replace Rohit Sharma in the longest format.

The 30-year-old impressed in Rohit's absence during the first Test, leading India to a dominant 295-run victory. When asked about Bumrah's potential as a full-time captain, Pujara had no doubts. He told ESPNcricinfo:

“He is with any doubt. The way he has showed that in difficult circumstances when we had a tough series at home and when you are playing a first Test match in Australia and to put up a show like that. I think he has the capability of leading the team and he’s a team’s man. You look at him he never only talks about himself, he talks about the team, the other players. What advice he would give."

Bumrah has played 41 Tests for India, taking 181 wickets and recording 11 five-wicket hauls. He is currently ranked as the No. 1 Test bowler.
