[In Picture] Mohammed Siraj appointed as Telangana’s DSP - Reports

The Telangana state government has appointed Mohammed Siraj as the new Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for his contributions to cricket (via The Hindu). The rank comes under Indian Police Service (IPS) officer rank. It’s the second rank in the IPS hierarchy. The officer is tasked with maintaining law and order, investigating crimes, and maintaining peace in a district.

In a picture, Siraj can be seen with several police officers with a letter of acknowledgement and a flower bouquet. Take a look:

Earlier this year, Siraj was felicitated by Telangana CM Revanth Reddy after returning to his state following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph.

The Hyderabad-born player has represented India in 29 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is. He has scalped 163 wickets across the format.

Mohammed Siraj was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which India won by a 2-0 margin. The pacer might be next seen in action during the upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand.

Several other Indian cricketers have held posts in the government sectors. Former skipper MS Dhoni holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, while Sachin Tendulkar also holds an honorary rank in the Indian Air Force. Joginder Sharma, who was part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, joined as a permanent DSP in Haryana.

Mohammed Siraj critical to India’s success in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Mohammed Siraj will be critical to India’s success in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the visitors aim to complete a hat-trick of series wins down under. The 30-year-old has bagged 13 wickets in three Tests against Australia, including a five-wicket haul.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami’s fitness will decide the fate of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He wrote on X:

“If Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he's fit and available.”

The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kickstart in Perth from November 22.
