Meanwhile, the Delhi-born cricketer's struggles persisted as he was dismissed for just five runs off 12 balls in India's first innings. Virat has had a disappointing year in Test cricket in 2024, accumulating only 255 runs in 13 innings at an average of 21.25, with just one half-century to his name.

Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul marks a remarkable comeback for India in the first 2024-25 BGT Test

After deciding to bat first, the visitors endured a tough start, losing five wickets for 59 runs. KL Rahul was the only batter to look comfortable, but his innings was cut short for 26 off 74 balls due to a controversial decision. Rishabh Pant (37 off 78 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (41 off 59 balls) offered crucial resistance, helping India reach 150 in their first innings.

In reply, India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with a brilliant performance, taking three wickets in his first four overs, including the key wicket of Steven Smith. Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj also played pivotal roles as Australia ended Day 1 at 67-7.

On the morning of Day 2, Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Alex Carey. Harshit then picked up two more wickets as Australia were bowled out for 104, handing India a crucial 46-run lead.
