Australian newspaper Adelaide Advertiser has used pictures of former India skipper Virat Kohli and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Hindi and Punjabi fonts, to create hype for the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Daily wrote ‘The New King’ for Jaiswal and ‘Fight for the Ages’ for Kohli ahead of the five-match Test series. The first Test will kick start in Perth from November 22 onwards.
Take a look:
Virat Kohli will be one of the batters to watch out for in the Test series, owing to his brilliant track record in Australia. The right-handed batter has amassed 1,352 runs in 25 innings at an average of 54.08, including six tons and four half-centuries. Overall, he has 2,042 runs in 44 innings against the Aussies.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed Kohli to find his mojo back in the Test series, He told ICC (via The Times of India):
“I've said it before about Virat, you don't ever question the greats of the game. There's no doubt, he's a great of the game. He loves playing against Australia. In fact, I know he loves playing against Australia."
"And as I said, his record (in Australia) is very good. If there's a time for him to turn it around, it'd be this series. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see Virat make runs in the first game," he added.
“That will be a massive challenge” – Nathan Lyon on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Nathan Lyon, meanwhile, recently opened up on the challenging prospect of facing Yashasvi Jaiswal. He told ESPNcricinfo (via The Times of India):
"I haven't come across him [Jaiswal] yet, but that will be a massive challenge for all us bowlers. The way he played against England, I watched that quite closely and thought that was quite amazing."
Yashasvi Jaiswal is the second-highest leading run-scorer in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The southpaw has amassed 1407 runs in 26 innings at an average of 56.28, including two double centuries. With India skipper Rohit Sharma unlikely to play the first Test in Perth, Jaiswal will look to deliver big and set the tone for the series.
