Shardul Thakur representing Mumbai in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024

Shardul Thakur has been absent from the Indian team since December 2023. The talented player was also briefly on the sidelines after undergoing an ankle injury following the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player failed to fetch a contract at the IPL 2025 auction. He entered the event with a base price of ₹2 crore but ultimately remained unsold, not garnering any interest among the 10 franchises.

He is currently partaking in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-arm pacer has bagged 12 wickets across six outings in the domestic T20 tournament. The ongoing season has been a mixed bag for him.

Thakur proved expensive in Mumbai's initial fixtures, even bowling the most expensive spell in the competition's history by recording figures of 1/69 against Kerala. He did redeem himself by claiming three and four wickets against Nagaland and Services.

Mumbai will take on Vidarbha in the quarter-final on Wednesday, December 11. The knockout match will be played at Alur, Karnataka.
