MS Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain ahead of IPL 2024

MS Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of the IPL, having led Chennai to five championship titles. He relinquished his leadership position ahead of IPL 2024, handing over the reins to opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The seasoned campaigner turned the clock back, delivering explosive cameos for his team in the edition. The keeper-batter finished with 161 runs across 11 innings at a fantastic strike rate of 220.54.

Chennai's hopes of qualifying for the playoffs were shattered after suffering a heartbreaking 27-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final league match. CSK finished fifth in the standings after seven wins and as many defeats.

Dhoni hasn't officially announced his IPL retirement and it remains to be seen if he turns up for Chennai in next year's edition.
