IPL 2025 auction: When Deepak Chahar shared a throwback picture with MI legend Rohit Sharma
Indian pacer Deepak Chahar was purchased by Mumbai Indians (MI) for ₹9.25 on day two of the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah on Monday, November 25. Chahar will now be a teammate of former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma, having played under MS Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a number of years.
Back in November 2021, Chahar had shared a throwback picture with his future MI teammate Rohit. Sharing a couple of pictures with the Hitman on X, Chahar wrote:
“Picture at the same ground after almost 15 years. Me and Rohit Bhaiya (brother), we both didn’t have beard that time.”
Chennai Super Kings didn’t use the Right to Match (RTM) option owing to the low purse. This is Chahar’s fourth IPL franchise after stints with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants.
Deepak Chahar’s IPL salary drops by ₹4.75 crore at IPL 2025 auction
Chahar’s IPL salary has dropped by ₹4.75 crore after CSK released him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. He was re-bought by the Super Kings in the previous mega auctions at ₹14 crore.
Chahar has a history of injury concerns over the last few IPL seasons. He managed to play just eight games in the 2024 season before pulling up a niggle. He missed the 2022 season due to a right quadriceps injury and played just 10 games in the 2023 edition of the tournament.
Overall, the Agra-born player has 77 wickets in 81 IPL matches at an economy of 7.98. He is known for his exploits in the powerplay overs owing to his ability to deliver slower balls than usual.
Chahar has also represented the Men in Blue in 25 games, picking up 31 wickets at an economy rate of 8.30. He is currently representing Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
