[In Pictures] Lights go off twice at Adelaide Oval during Day 1 of 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test

An enthralling opening day of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 has seen everything from exceptional bowling performances, counter-attacking batting and both teams fighting hard to gain the upper hand.

However, an unusual instance occurred not once, but twice, within a short span, that left everyone amused in between all the action. The stadium floodlights went off twice within less than five minutes at the Adelaide Oval during the third and final session on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test.

Have a look:

The incident occurred in the 18th over of the Australian innings when Harshit Rana had the ball in hand for India. Rana had bowled the first two deliveries of the over when the lights went off for the first time and it appeared as though there would be a temporary stoppage in play. However, the issue was resolved in hardly any time and it was the briefest of stoppages.

The lights going off is not a big deal but it left everyone amused when they went off for the second time in the same over. Rana had bowled just two more deliveries after the first instance as the lights went off yet again.

The crowd seemed to enjoy the happening as they switched on their mobilephone torches. While it was entertaining for the crowd, it was frustrating and annoying for the players on the field, for Harshit Rana in particular.

Fortunately, the lights were back on in no time and there was no major stoppage in play at the Adelaide Oval.

Cricket Australia also posted a video of the same on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

"The lights went out twice in quick succession at Adelaide Oval, but play has resumed. #AUSvIND," the tweet read.

Australia dominate proceedings on Day 1 at the Adelaide Oval

As far as the game is concerned, hosts Australia have dominated the proceedings on the opening day (December 6) of the Adelaide Oval Test. India batted first and were bowled out for just 180 runs.

Ace pacer Mitchell Starc led the charge with a brilliant six-wicket haul that troubled the visiting batters throughout their innings. After a good job with the ball, the Australian batters have responded well, making sure the hosts continue to hold grip of the game so far. As of 27 overs into their innings, Australia have scored 74 runs, having lost just a single wicket and trail by just 106 runs.
