[In Pictures] Rahul Dravid and P Gopichand speak at BCCI's "High Performance Coaches Symposium" at NCA
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently hosted a High Performance Coaches Symposium at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Former India men's head coach Rahul Dravid, Chief National Coach for the India badminton team P Gopichand, and cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami spoke at the event.
The BCCI described it as a "coming together" of different perspectives on successful coaching at the highest level in sports. In the photos shared by the BCCI on social media, Ashwin seemed to be present virtually while former India batting coach Vikram Rathore and former India pacer Vinay Kumar were present at the venue.
"The High Performance Coaches Symposium which was held at the NCA was a coming together of different perspectives on the tenets of coaching successfully at the highest level," BCCI said in a statement on X. "Former #TeamIndia Head Coach Mr. Rahul Dravid, Mr. P Gopichand, Mr. R Ashwin and Mr. Mohd. Shami addressed the attendees to share their experiences of imparting and benefiting from good coaching practices"
The BCCI provides three levels of coaching at the NCA, covering aspects like basic principles, session planning, player assessment, team management, and advanced skillsets. The level-three coaching for this year was rounded up only a few days ago on August 10.
"The attendees of this flagship course went through modules in skill training and leadership that will help them as they progress further in their respective coaching journeys," BCCI said in a post on X.
Dravid headed the NCA from 2019 to 2021 before he took the India head coach job and passed on the baton to former teammate VVS Laxman. Gopichand, meanwhile, is one of the most respected coaches in the country and was recently part of India's Badminton contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
"Wonderful opportunity" - Vinay Kumar on BCCI's coaching course
Vinay Kumar, who played 41 international matches for India, recently took to X to laud the BCCI course. He said:
"Just finished two weeks of level 3 coaching course. It was a truly enriching experience. Thanks to @BCCI #NCA #RahulDravid @VVSLaxman281 for this wonderful opportunity 🇮🇳 #Level3Coach."
The BCCI is also in the process of upgrading the NCA by launching a bigger and better facility with as many as 45 pitches.
