[In Pictures] Returning CSK player shares snap from 2014 ahead of IPL 2025
Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have built a potent squad ahead of the 2025 season as they eye a record sixth title. The franchise invested in local players and bought back many of their former players as well, such as ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
They also brought back all-rounder Vijay Shankar at the IPL 2025 auction. Vijay began his Indian Premier League career with CSK way back in 2014. However, he played just one game that season, and did not even get an opportunity to bat or bowl.
Born in Tamil Nadu, the all-rounder is all set to don the CSK colors once again in the upcoming season. Vijay Shankar was acquired for INR 1.20 crore by his former franchise at the 2025 auction.
The all-rounder recently took to his official Instagram account to share a picture from his time with the franchise in 2014. Additionally, he posted a recent picture in Chennai colors ahead of the 2025 season.

Shankar is giving the whistling pose in both the pictures of the post. He also added an instrumental version of the Jailer Drill Theme as the song for the upload.
Vijay Shankar's IPL record
After his breif stint with CSK in 2014, Vijay Shankar featured in the league in 2017 when he played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The following year, he played for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) before returning to SRH in 2019, where he played till 2021.
In 2022, the all-rounder was picked by the Gujarat Titans (GT) and played for the franchise till 2024. In 2025, Vijay Shankar will represent his former frachise CSK.
Overall, he has played 72 matches in his IPL career. The 33-year-old has scored 1115 runs with six half-centuries and a top score of an unbeaten 63. He has also picked up nine wickets, with best figures of 2/19.
