[In Pictures] Sajid Khan fumbles a simple run out chance by dislodging the bails with his arm in 2nd ENG vs PAK 2024 TestÂ
Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan handed a huge reprieve to England's Zak Crawley after botching a simple run out opportunity on Day 2 of the second Test in Multan. The incident happened during the eighth over after the opening batter had raced off to 20 runs in the first innings.
After posting 366 on the board, Pakistan bowlers had the task of testing the England batters on a used pitch. However, the duo of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett played with the same approach to attack the new ball. They were inching close to yet another 50-run partnership when disaster almost struck.
Crawley, eager for a single after Duckett had nudged a delivery to the leg side, was sent back by his batting partner. The opener was miles away from the crease when the throw was made to Sajid Khan at the non-striker's end. Crawley would not have been in the frame had the bowler collected the throw neatly and executed the run out.
However, in this case, Sajid Khan already dislodged the bails after his left hand made contact with the stumps. He did not even collect the ball well, as it spilled after hitting his palm. The bowler was confident that he managed to execute a routine run out, but the replays suggested otherwise to give Crawley a second chance.
Have a look at the incident right here:
On-field umpire Chris Gaffaney showcased to Shan Masood and the rest of the Pakistan team that the stumps need to be uprooted with the ball in hand for a run out to be considered in circumstances where the bails have already been dislodged.
Zak Crawley survived a LBW call off Sajid Khan's bowling before being dismissed
Sajid Khan seemingly made amends by trapping Zak Crawley LBW in his next over. The opener had even accepted his fate by walking back before Duckett convinced him to take a review. Ball-tracking showed that there was too much spin on the ball, and there would have been no contact with the stumps.
Noman Ali eventually dismissed Crawley for 27 runs in the 13th over. As of writing, England are comfortably placed at 102-1 after 20 overs, with Duckett reaching his half-century.
