[In Pictures] Suryakumar Yadav's wife Devisha Shetty's priceless reaction after USA fielder gives him life by dropping a catch in T20 WC match

Suryakumar Yadav's wife, Devisha Shetty, heaved a huge sigh of relief after he got a lifeline during the chase of the 2024 T20 World Cup match against the United States on Wednesday (June 12). The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York hosted the game.

The USA team batted first in the contest after losing the toss on a bowling-friendly track. The trend of low scores at the venue continued as the hosts could only score 110/8 at the end of the play in the first innings, with only Steven Taylor (24) and Nitish Kumar (27) playing decent knocks. Arshdeep Singh (4-9) and Hardik Pandya (2-14) starred for India with the ball with brilliant spells.

Saurabh Netravalkar stunned India early in the chase by dismissing Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) inside three overs. Fellow pacer Ali Khan sent Rishabh Pant back to the pavilion later to reduce India to 39/3 in 7.3 overs, putting them in a troubling situation.

Suryakumar Yadav joined hands with Shivam Dube at this juncture and resurrected the innings. The duo played watchfully initially as the USA bowlers utilized the conditions well to trouble the batters constantly. In the 13th over, when Surya was on 22 (30), he decided to up the ante with a big shot.

He hit USA pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk's delivery in the air towards the short third region. Saurabh Netravalkar went for the catch and covered some distance to get near it but failed to grab it. Suryakumar Yadav's wife, Devisha Shetty, who was watching the action from the stands, was relieved after the catch was dropped as the game was in balance at that juncture.

"Credit to Surya and Dube for taking the game to the end" - India captain Rohit Sharma on Suryakumar Yadav's crucial partnership with Shivam Dube vs USA

At the post-match presentation, Indian captain Rohit Sharma reflected on the win and said:

"We knew it was going to be a tough task scoring those many runs. Credit to us that we held our nerves till the end. Credit to Surya and Dube for taking the game to the end and playing mature knocks.

He continued:

"We have played cricket with a lot of these boys (in the USA team) and I wish them the best. They are hardworking guys and they are making their mark in this country. Bowlers had to take the lead; we knew that run scoring would not have been easy."

India will next face Canada on Saturday (June 15) at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.
