Team India have arrived in Sri Lanka for the upcoming three T20Is and as many ODIs. The T20Is will be played in Pallekele ahead of the ODI series in Colombo.
Surykumar Yadav has been appointed India’s T20I captain after Rohit Sharma retired from the format after the 2024 World Cup victory. Rohit will be back to lead the Men in Blue in three ODIs. Shubman Gill has been named as India’s new vice-captain ahead of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul in both formats.
Notably, the white-ball series will mark Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as India’s head coach. He will have huge shoes to fill as Rahul Dravid guided India to three ICC finals in the last 12 months.

Gautam Gambhir confirms his assistant coaches ahead of Sri Lanka tour
Gautam Gambhir, who has signed a 3.5-year contract with BCCI, has confirmed Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate as his two assistant coaches. The 42-year-old has worked with the duo at the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Gambhir said:
“We will try and finalise after the Sri Lanka tour. But, I have worked with people like Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Ten Doeschate very closely. In the last two months, especially in the IPL, I have enjoyed working with them. They are thorough professionals. Hope Ryan and Abhishek can have a successful stint.”
"Really happy with the BCCI. They have agreed to most of the things I have asked for. I personally feel there could be assistant coaches working and focusing on all three departments than one specific department. That’s the reason we now have two assistant coaches. That’s the way we will go forward as well,” he added.
Meanwhile, Morne Morkel will reportedly become India’s new bowling coach, having worked with Gambhir at IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Sairaj Bahutule will serve as the interim bowling coach in Sri Lanka.
