Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the first Test but made a remarkable comeback in the second innings, scoring 161 runs. He also formed a historic 201-run opening partnership with KL Rahul, the highest-ever by an Indian pair on Australian soil.
The star opener relaxed ahead of the second Test on Tuesday, sharing an Instagram post with Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel as they enjoyed coffee at a cafe. He captioned it:
“Haa waaa yaaaa mate.”
Meanwhile, Jurel struggled in the first Test, registering scores of 11 and one in his two innings. Sundar made a contribution of 33 runs with the bat across both innings and also claimed two wickets with the ball.
Yashasvi Jaiswal broke Brendon McCullum's 10-year-old record during the first 2024-25 BGT Test
During the first Test between India and Australia, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161 runs in the second innings, including 15 boundaries and three sixes. In the process, he broke Brendon McCullum's 10-year-old record for the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket.
McCullum, the former New Zealand captain, had hit 33 sixes in 2014. However, the record now belongs to the 22-year-old Indian opener, who has struck 35 sixes in 2024 so far.
The southpaw has had an exceptional year with the bat. He has tallied 1,280 runs in 12 Tests, second only to Joe Root (1,361), at an average of 58.18, including seven half-centuries and three centuries.
In total, Jaiswal has played 15 Tests, scoring 1,568 runs at an average of 58.07, with eight half-centuries and four centuries to his name.
