India will take on defending champions England in the 2024 T20 World Cup second semifinal, scheduled at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. The two teams will face off in a repeat of the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, where the Jos Buttler-led side thrashed the Men in Blue by 10 wickets in a one-sided match.

India and England have locked horns four times in the tournament. The rivalry is evenly poised at 2-2. England won in the 2009 and 2022 editions (by three runs and 10 wickets, respectively), while India emerged victorious in 2007 and 2012 (by 18 and 90 runs, respectively).

Overall, the two teams have locked horns 23 times in T20Is, with India leading England 12-11 in head-to-head clashes.

Rohit Sharma and Co. will be keen to avenge the loss they faced in their last meeting at the ICC event. They will look to continue their unbeaten streak in the semifinal. Meanwhile, two-time champions England will be keen to make it to back-to-back finals in search of becoming the first-ever team to lift three T20 World Cup titles.

India beat Australia by 24 runs in their last 2024 T20 World Cup match in Gros Islet, St Lucia on June 24.

Asked to bat first, the Men in Blue put up 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring 92 runs off 41 balls, hitting eight sixes and seven boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya chipped in with 31 (16), 28 (22) and 27* (17), respectively.

Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc emerged as the pick of the Australia bowlers, bagging two wickets each, while Josh Hazlewood returned with economical figures of 1/14 in his four overs.

In response, Australia managed 181/7. Travis Head put up a lone fight, scoring 76 off 43 deliveries with the help of four sixes and nine boundaries. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with scores of 37 (28) and 20 (12), respectively. Tim David (15 off 11) and Pat Cummins (11* off 7) were the other Aussie batters to reach double digits.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the Indian bowlers, finishing with an exceptional spell of 3/37, while Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel also scalped one wicket apiece.

England’s scorecard from their last 2024 T20 World Cup game

England thrashed co-hosts USA by 10 wickets in their last T20 World Cup outing in Barbados on June 23.

Asked to bat first, the USA were bundled out for 115 in 18.5 overs. Nitish Kumar top scored with 30 off 24, including two sixes and one boundary. Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh also chipped in with 29 (28) and 21 (17), respectively. Steven Taylor and captain Aaron Jones were the other batters to cross double digits.

Chris Jordan, who bagged a hat-trick, finished with stunning figures of 4/10 in his 2.5 overs for England, while Sam Curran and Adil Rashid shared two wickets each. Liam Livingstone and Reece Topley also scalped one wicket apiece.

In response, England achieved the target in 9.4 overs. Captain Jos Buttler slammed an unbeaten 83 off 38, comprising seven sixes and six boundaries. Phil Salt also stayed unbeaten on 25 off 21, including two boundaries.
