[WATCH] Shreyas Iyer stumped for 92 on Day 1 of 2nd IND vs SL 2022 Test
Team India batter Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant 98-ball 92 on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Saturday. Shreyas deserved a hundred but was running out of partners. He was the last man out in India's first innings, stumped eight short of three figures.
Looking for quick runs, the middle-order batter premeditated his charge down the track against left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama. The bowler spotted Shreyas’ movement and changed his trajectory. He bowled it slower in the air and got the delivery to spin past the well-set batter. Wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella did the rest, effecting an easy stumping.

Shreyas’ 92 was the top score for India as they were bowled out for 252 in 59.1 overs after winning the toss and batting first. The middle-order batter hit 10 fours and four sixes during his innings and was the only one who looked to be in control of proceedings on a tough surface.
India got off to a poor start in their innings as Mayank Agarwal was run out for 4. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s lean run with the bat continued as he fell to Lasith Embuldeniya for 15. Hanuma Vihari (31), Virat Kohli (23) and Rishabh Pant (39) all got starts but failed to carry on as India stumbled to 183 for 7. Shreyas’ innings then lifted the hosts to some respectability.
For Sri Lanka, Embuldeniya and Jayawickrama both claimed three wickets each while Dhananjaya de Silva chipped in with two. Suranga Lakmal, playing in his last Test, got the scalp of Axar Patel.
Shreyas Iyer’s rich vein for form continues
After struggling during the ODIs in South Africa, the 27-year-old has hit a purple patch with the bat.
He scored 80 in the third ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad and was undefeated throughout the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Batting at No.3 in Kohli’s absence, he registered scores of 57*, 74* and 73* as India thumped the Lankans 3-0.
He was looking good in the first Test in Mohali as well until being dismissed for 27.
