Virat Kohli's attempt for a fairly-tale century at his second home Bengaluru came crashing down with a grubber in the second India-Sri Lanka Test on Saturday.
The 33-year-old looked in the zone and had strolled to a 48-ball 23. Off-spinner Dhanajaya de Silva bowled an off-cutter at a short-of-good length on the third ball of the 28th over. Kohli went back and a bit across, attempting a simple dab on the leg-side. But the ball didn't rise at all and slipped past his bat to hit plumb in front.
There was no need for a review as the ball would have crashed a few inches above the base of the leg-stump. The batter was stunned and dejected and so was the crowd who had given him a roaring reception, but neither could do anything as the batter dragged himself back to the dressing room.

This wasn't the first or the last time the ball had kept low in the match. Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer also survived a couple of such deliveries. Similar to India's last pink-ball Test in Ahmedabad, the pitch offers a substantial turn and unpredictable low bounce, making it difficult for the batters to adjust.
India at 93/4 at Tea after Virat Kohli's wicket
The former captain's wicket came just a couple of overs before Tea, with India ending the 29-over session at 93/4. Mayank Agarwal was the first to fall as he was run-out on a no-ball. The other opener, skipper Rohit Sharma (15 off 25), was dismissed soon after as well, edging a turning ball from Lasith Embuldeniya to gully.
Vihari couldn't keep out a sharp turner from Praveen Jayawickrama and was out for a well-made 31 (81). Former Delhi Capitals teammates Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have joined hands at the crease, looking to help India go past the 200-run mark in the first innings.
