IND vs SL 2024, 2nd ODI: Who won yesterday’s India vs Sri Lanka match?

Sri Lanka beat India by 32 runs in yesterday's ODI match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the impressive triumph, the Lankans took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after the opening one-dayer was tied. The Men in Blue now need to win the final ODI in Colombo on August 7 to square the series.

Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka put up 240-9. For the second game in a row, the hosts recovered from a poor start, thanks to their lower order. Jeffrey Vandersay then stunned India with sensational figures of 6-33 in 10 overs as the Men in Blue were bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs.

Chasing 241, India were again off to a solid start, courtesy of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. The Indian captain took full advantage of the field restrictions and cruised to his second consecutive half-century. However, like in the first ODI, Team India lost their way after his exit.

Rohit (64 off 44) perished to Vandersay, brilliantly caught by Pathum Nissanka, as he miscued a reverse-sweep. Gill (35 off 44) was the next to go, falling to another superb catch by Kamindu Mendis at first slip off Vandersay's bowling.

Vandersay also trapped Shivam Dube (0) and Virat Kohli (14) leg before to leave India reeling at 123-4 in the 20th over.

The 34-year-old, coming in for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga, continued to spin a web around India's batters and was rewarded with the scalps of Shreyas Iyer (7) and KL Rahul (0). Shreyas was trapped leg before with a length ball that turned in and beat his outside edge, while Rahul dragged one onto his stumps while attempting a drive.

Axar Patel (44) fought hard yet again with the willow, but Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka (3-20) pulled off a brilliant caught and bowled to end his resistance and also added the scalps of Washington Sundar (15) and Mohammed Siraj (4).

The well-deserved victory for Sri Lanka came via the run out of Arshdeep Singh (3) following his mix-up with Kuldeep Yadav (7*).

Lower order boosts Sri Lanka yet again

Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka got off to a horror start as Nissanka nicked the first delivery from Siraj to the keeper.

Avishka Fernando (40 off 62) and Kusal Mendis (30 off 42) added 74 for the second wicket, but Sundar sent both of them on their way. The Lankans lost their way and soon slipped to 136-6.

Like in the first ODI, though, Dunith Wellalage held the innings together with 39 off 35, while Kamindu contributed a crucial 40 off 44. The duo added 72 for the seventh wicket to lift England, while Akila Dananjaya contributed 15 off 13.
