"India have found an all-format opening batter" - Dinesh Karthik reveals what MS Dhoni thought of a young KL Rahul

Former Team India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was in the commentary box for the ongoing Test match between Team India and Bangladesh on Day 1. The match is being played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Karthik shared what former Team India captain MS Dhoni said about KL Rahul when the latter burst onto the scene.

While speaking and deliberating with other commentators about Rahul's batting position, Karthik said:

"'I remember there was an ODI in Ranchi and MS Dhoni had come to the gym. It was during the embryonic stages of KL Rahul's career and he said, 'I think India have found an all-format opening batter in KL Rahul.' That was the opinion of MS Dhoni on KL Rahul."

KL Rahul is part of the Indian side that is playing the first of the two Tests against Bangladesh. This is also the 32-year-old's 200th overall game for Team India since making his debut back in 2014.

Karthik, post his retirement, has donned the role of batting coach at Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has also been present in the commentary box, with fans finding his views on the game interesting and liking his commentary.

Bangladesh won the toss and asked Team India to bat in the 1st Test on Thursday, September 19. The visitors struck early as the hosts were reduced to 34/3, with Rohit Sharma (6 off 19), Shubman Gill (0 off 8), and Virat Kohli (6 off 6) being dismissed cheaply.

Rishabh Pant walked to the middle and added 62 runs for the fourth wicket with Jaiswal. Pant continued with his aggressive approach and in the process, was dismissed for 39. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers as he was responsible for the first four Team India wickets to fall.

At the moment, India are at 143/4 after 41 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul are batting in the middle for the hosts
