India set to release traveling reserves from BGT 2024-25 squad - Reports

Team India traveling reserves Yash Dayal, Mukesh Kumar, and Navdeep Saini are set to be released from the squad midway through the Border-Gavaskar series 2024-25 ahead of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. The trio were part of the India A squad for the unofficial Test series against Australia A and remained with the senior team as cover for the fast bowling unit.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is scheduled to begin on December 21, during the gap between the third and the fourth Tests of the Border-Gavaskar series. The Men in Blue have a five-man contingent in their pace attack, with Prasidh Krishna yet to play a game.

Yash Dayal was initially not among the traveling reserves and was named as a replacement following an injury to fellow left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed.

Mukesh Kumar was already named in Bengal's 20-man squad for the domestic List-A tournament, which also features Mohammed Shami. Navdeep Saini, on the other hand, played the first unofficial Test against Australia A, where he went wicket-less. Since then, he has been part of the side assisting India's preparation for the series in nets and match simulation.

According to a report by The Times of India, Yash Dayal has already left Australia and is preparing in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming tournament.

India play the remaining Border-Gavaskar series matches in Melbourne and Sydney

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma intends to use Jasprit Bumrah for all five Tests, managing his workload as they go. With the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep running in full flow, and Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna available if required, the traveling reserves have been relieved of their duties.

The fourth Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. By then, the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be well underway. The series finale is scheduled to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 onwards.
