India vs Bangladesh 2024, 1st Test: Toss result and playing XIs for today's match, umpires list and pitch report
India are taking on Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the first Test of the two-match series. The hosts are featuring in their first red-ball series since the 4-1 win against England in March this year. In contrast, Bangladesh are fresh from a historic 2-0 triumph in Pakistan.
Senior batter Virat Kohli is back in the Indian team for the Test series, having missed the home games against England for the birth of his second child. KL Rahul, who got injured during the first Test against England in Hyderabad, and missed the rest of the matches, also returns to the red-ball format.
Significantly, the series marks the Test comeback of keeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The left-handed batter last played a red-ball game for India against Bangladesh in Mirpur in December 2022, just a few days before his car accident.
Bangladesh have never beaten India in a Test match. But the visitors will take confidence from the fact that they had a similar record against Pakistan, before rewriting history in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh have won the toss and will bowl first. Najmul Hossain Shanto said:
“Looks like there is a bit of moisture on the wicket. We want to use the conditions. The first session will be good for the fast bowlers.
Bangladesh are going in with three seamers and two spinners. India are also going in with three pacers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep and two spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

IND vs BAN 1st Test pitch report
In his pitch report Dinesh Karthik says, it’s a day unlike what it usually is in Chennai - very cool but it will get hotter as the day progresses. A red soil pitch means bounce, turn and the big spinners will come into play as the game goes along, he feels. The former India keeper adds that there is residual moisture left underneath the deck too, so the fast bowlers will have a say.
