India vs New Zealand: Who won yesterday’s match in Women's T20 World Cup 2024?

New Zealand beat India by 58 runs in yesterday's 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Batting first after winning the toss, the White Ferns put up a competitive 160-4 on the board. In response, the Women in Blue were bowled out for 102 in 19 overs.

India were lethargic with the ball and in the field in the powerplay. Kiwi openers Suzie Bates (27 off 24) and Georgia Plimmer (34 off 23) took advantage of the same, adding 67 in 7.4 overs. The stand was broken when Bates was caught at deep midwicket off Arundhati Reddy. In the next over, Plimmer chipped a tossed-up delivery from Asha Sobhana to long-on.

Amelia Kerr survived a run-out under controversial circumstances as the umpires declared a dead ball. However, she fell soon after for 13 off 22, chipping one from Renuka Singh to cover.

Skipper Sophie Devine led from the front for New Zealand, smashing 57* off 36 balls with the aid of seven fours. Brooke Halliday also chipped in with 16 off 12 the batting side finished with an impressive total.

Rosemary Mair claims 4-19 as India's batting crumbles

Chasing 161, India were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Shafali Verma (2) chipped a tossed-up delivery from off-spinner Eden Carson back to the bowler. Smriti Mandhana (12) then dragged one from the same New Zealand bowler straight to long-on.

The chasing side suffered a massive blow when skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (15) was trapped lbw by a length delivery from Mair that swung in. She took the review, but had to walk back as DRS went with the umpire's call.

Jemimah Rodrigues (13) and Richa Ghosh (12) got into double figures, but fell to soft dismissals, chipping simple catches. Barring Deepti Sharma (13) none of the remaining Indian batters got into double figures as New Zealand registered a comprehensive win.
