India vs Pakistan: Who won yesterday’s match in Women's T20 World Cup 2024?

India beat Pakistan by six wickets in yesterday's ICC Women's 2024 T20 World Cup match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With the triumph, India moved up to fourth position in the Group A points table and kept their hopes of qualifying for the semifinals alive.

Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first in the seventh match of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup. However, India came up with a solid bowling effort to restrict their arch-rivals to 105-8. Pacer Arundhati Reddy starred with figures of 3-19, while off-spinner Shreyanka Patil picked up two wickets for only 12 runs.

India struck in the first over of the match as Renuka Singh got a ball to swing back in and knocked over Gull Feroza (0). Sidra Amin (8) was bowled by Deepti Sharma as she attempted to sweep a tossed-up delivery. Pakistan were three down for 33 when Omaima Sohail (3) miscued a full ball from Reddy to mid-off.

India kept striking key blows as Muneeba Ali (17) was stumped following a failed attempt to take on Shreyanka. Reddy then trapped Aliya Riaz (4) lbw with a well-directed length ball. Nida Dar (28 off 34) held one end up for the batting side, but wickets kept falling at the other.

Skipper Fatima Sana (13 off 8) fell to a brilliant diving catch by keeper Richa Ghosh as she attempted to go after Asha Sobhana, but only managed a thick outside edge. A cameo from Syeda Aroob Shah (14* off 17) dragged Pakistan past the 100-run mark after Dar was cleaned up by Reddy in the last over.

India cautious in chase against Pakistan

Having held Pakistan to 105, the Women in Blue had a great chance of boosting their net run rate by playing some aggressive cricket. But their batters did not look in great rhythm. As a result, India were cautious in the chase and took their time to overhaul Pakistan's total.

India suffered an early blow as Smriti Mandhana (7 off 16) sliced one from Sadia Iqbal to point. Shafali Verma (32 off 35) and Jemimah Rodrigues (23 off 28) added 43 for the second wicket to boost India's hopes. The stand was broken when Shafali miscued a tossed-up delivery from Omaima Sohailto long-on.

Rodrigues was the next to go, nicking Fatima Sana to the keeper. India were 80-4 when Ghosh was caught behind for a golden duck. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (29 off 24), however, anchored the innings before retiring hurt. She over-balanced while trying to save herself from getting stumped.
