India vs Sri Lanka 2024, 1st T20I: Toss result and playing XIs for today's match, umpires list and pitch report
India are taking on Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in the first T20I of the three-match series. The Men in Blue will look to continue their domination over the Lankans in the format. India have a 19-9 lead over Sri Lanka in T20Is.
The visitors will be led by star batter Suryakumar Yadav, who was picked as captain ahead of all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Following the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja from the T20I format, Team India will now look to rebuild with a focus on the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Hosts Sri Lanka also have a new captain in Charith Asalanka, who has taken over from Wanindu Hasaranga after a disappointing 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. The Lankans have already lost the services of fast bowlers Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera due to fitness issues and there are a few other illness worries in the camp as well.

According to Saba Karim and Farveez Maharoof, there is cool breeze, so the temperature will come down. As for the surface, they reckon that it is a hard one, with cracks being visible. During LPL games as well, the pitch had cracks, but there was grass cover. The experts reckon that this surface could be on the slower side, but should get better once the game progresses.
