"India won the T20 World Cup when last time an Australian took the hattrick"- Top 10 funny memes from AUS vs BAN Super 8 clash
Australia beat Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS Method) in the 44th match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Thursday, June 20. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, hosted this rain-curtailed contest.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Bangladesh managed to score 140/8 in 20 overs after a diasppointing effort from the batting department.
Only Towhid Hridoy (40) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (41) got going, while the rest of the batters struggled against a quality Aussie bowling attack. Pat Cummins became the second Australian bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup after Brett Lee achieved the feat against the same opposition in 2007. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa also bowled a wonderful spell of 4-0-24-2.
In reply, David Warner and Travis Head (31) stitched together a 65-run opening partnership in 6.5 overs to put their side in the driver's seat. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain then dismissed Head and Marsh in quick succession to give a ray of hope to Bangladesh. Warner (53*), however, took the game away from them by scoring an enterprising half-century before rain halted the play at 100/2 in 11.2 overs. Unrelenting showers then forced the match officials to decide the winner by DLS Method.

"We should have scored at least 170" - Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto after loss vs Australia in Super 8 clash of 2024 T20 World Cup
At the post-match presentation, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto thought the pitch was decent for batting and acknowledged that they scored a below-par total against a quality team like Australia. Reflecting on the loss, he said:
"I think wicket looked really good, and we should have scored at least 170. Playing against this kind of a team, we should have taken more risks. Rishad Hossain came in early to try and take on spin, but unfortunately, it did not work out all that well."
On his form and the road ahead for Bangladesh in the World Cup, Shanto continued:
"I am happy with my own game, but I hope to get better. Our batters had a decent outing today, so we will be up and running for our game against India now."
