Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh underwent a successful liver transplant and is on the path to recovery as he confirmed on his Instagram story. It was reported a week back on Times of India that the 37-year-old was battling for life due to acute liver failure.

The report further stated that he was waiting for a liver transplant in the Medanta Hospital ICU at Gurgaon.

Simi Singh started to feel unwell in Ireland a few months back and came to India in June for treatment.

After doctors at PGI Chandigarh diagnosed him with acute liver failure, he was referred to the Medanta Hospital. Simi's father-in-law, Parvinder Singh revealed that the former's wife Agamdeep donated part of her liver to save his life.

Simi Singh last played for Ireland in 2022

Even before the recent liver issue, Simi Singh was out of favor in the Ireland squad across formats over the past two years. The 37-year-old last played for them in the T20 World Cup in October 2022.

The spin-bowling all-rounder was a regular part of Ireland's ODI and T20I squads for five to six years until 2022. Simi Singh has played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is, picking up a combined 83 wickets at excellent economy rates of 3.99 and 7.61, respectively.

The Indian-born all-rounder was also a valuable batter, especially in ODIs, with an average of almost 23, including a century and a half-century.

Despite impressive all-round performances in the white-ball formats and first-class cricket, Simi Singh was not considered in Ireland's Test setup over the years. The veteran cricketer averages an incredible 25.25 with the ball and 36 with willow in 13 first-class games.
