Indian captain Rohit Sharma seen watching Cooch Behar Trophy match in Mumbai
India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma was recently seen following the action in a Cooch Behar Trophy match in Mumbai. As per reports, the 37-year-old was seen watching the clash between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir at BKC in Mumbai.
The official Instagram handle of 'team45ro' on Thursday, November 14, shared a video of the Indian cricketer taking part in some intense workout sessions. In the same clip, he is also seen doing some running and taking a halt to follow proceedings in the Cooch Behar Trophy match.
Uncertainty remains over Rohit's availability for the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth, which starts on November 22. The Indian captain has stayed back at home for the birth of his second child even as the rest of his teammates and the support staff are in Australia, practicing for the opening Test of the series.
As per a report in the Times of India, Rohit trained at the Reliance Corporate Park on Wednesday, November 13. The report added that the Indian skipper has been using the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) facilities as well as RCP for his training. As for the travel to Australia, he is likely to take a call after the birth of his second child.
"There is no clarity yet on his departure. It all depends on how things unfold on the personal front. He is doing what any father would at this stage, which is to stay with his wife and family. But at the same time, he is ensuring to be well-tuned for the Test series and will be batting at every possible opportunity in Mumbai," a source quoted TOI as saying.
Under Rohit, India suffered a 3-0 loss to New Zealand at home in a three-match Test series. This was the first time an Indian team had been whitewashed in a Test series of three or more matches at home. They had gone down to South Africa 2-0 in a two-match series in 2000.
Rohit Sharma's batting form is a concern
There have been growing concerns over Rohit's batting form, especially in the red-ball format. In 11 Test matches this year, the right-handed batter has scored 588 runs at an average of 29.40, with two hundreds and two fifties.
In his last 10 Test innings, though, the Indian captain has only managed one score over fifty. In the three-match Test series against the Kiwis, Rohit registered scores of 2, 52, 0, 8, 18 and 11.
