Injury scare for Team India star ahead of ENG vs IND 2025 1st Test: Reports
Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had a mini injury scare during a practice session ahead of the Test series opener against England. The first game is scheduled to be played in Leeds on June 20. A report from RevSportz claimed that the keeper had to apply a bandage and an ice pack on his left arm, followed by a brief period of rest.
Although the selectors have named Dhruv Jurel in the squad, Pant is Team India's first-choice keeper. The southpaw also has a decent record in Tests in England, scoring 556 runs in six matches at 32.71 along with two centuries. By contrast, Jurel is yet to play a Test on English soil.
According to the aforementioned report, a ball hit Pant's left arm, but he quickly moved on from it and said with a smile, "All OK," and resumed training.
The 27-year-old had hammered 146 in the most recent Test that India had played in England. The visitors will hope that the injury scare doesn't prove too much of a concern.
Rishabh Pant named India's Test team's vice-captain

Having made his Test debut in 2018 and become an integral part of India's most successful side in the format, the selectors have promoted Pant to the vice-captaincy role. With Rohit Sharma retiring from the format, Shubman Gill has been appointed skipper. Notably, Gill is likely to bat at number four, left vacant by Virat Kohli's retirement.
Pant not only struggled for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025 but also during the Test tour of Australia earlier this year. Contrary to expectations, the southpaw managed only 255 runs in five Tests at 28.33 with only one half-century.
With an inexperienced batting unit in England, the southpaw will need to do the heavy lifting as a batter. The Asian Giants are targeting their first series win on English soil since 2007.
