The Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a crucial six-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 9.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first, with Chris Jordan making his debut for the franchise. Faf du Plessis also announced the return of Vijaykumar Vysakh at the expense of leg-spinner Karn Sharma in the playing XI.
Jason Behrendorff delivered the early breakthroughs for Mumbai in the powerplay and reduced RCB to 16/2 in the third over. Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis took advantage of the optimum batting conditions, finished the powerplay on a high and put on 120 runs for the third wicket.
MI pulled things back with wickets at regular intervals in the second half of the innings. Dinesh Karthik played a valuable cameo towards the end as RCB ended with 199/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Ishan Kishan led the home side to a blistering start during the run chase, where MI got to the 50-run mark in just the fourth over. Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed both the openers in the space of a couple of deliveries in the penultimate over of the powerplay.

Mumbai ended the run chase with 21 balls to spare to claim the third spot on the table with 12 points in 11 matches.
